Girls on the Run Sierras brings character building summer camp to Carson City, registration open
Girls on the Run Sierras is a social emotional learning program that was established in the area in 2007. This year, GOTR is bringing a week-long, half-day summer camp to Carson City for the first time this August. The camp will be from August 7-11 at the Carson City Community Center and registration for Camp GOTR is open.
The 10-week GOTR program has 20 lessons that build upon each other each time teams meet, and the season culminates with a celebratory 5K. Different from a normal GOTR season, at Camp GOTR, girls ages 8-12 girls will participate in interactive activities that urge them to explore confidence, creativity and friendship throughout the week.
The week will then culminate with an art walk, where girls can show off their creations, rather than with a celebratory 5K run. At camp, girls will receive all of the social emotional learning (SEL) of GOTR mixed with all the fun of summer camp.
The skills that Camp GOTR equips girls with are ones that will benefit them throughout their lives. Girls will learn how to better communicate, understand emotions and work well with others. “We are so excited to bring Camp GOTR to Carson City for the first time” said Joy Heuer, Executive Director of Girls on the Run Sierras, “we want our life-changing program to reach every girl, and Camp GOTR is a great place to start.”
Details, pricing structure and registration can be found at girlsontherunsierras.org. Camp GOTR registration is first come, first serve and there are only 40 spots available.
GOTR Sierras is also looking for Camp GOTR coaches. GOTR coaches will spend the week leading a team of ten girls through lessons and activities. All GOTR coaches will be background checked and trained via GOTR National Coach Training. For any questions regarding Camp GOTR, please contact Kylie at kylie.daniels@girlsontherun.org.
