June weather rollercoaster: It will feel a lot like summer by this weekend
First it was warm then it wasn't. Then came the valley rain and Sierra snow Monday. Now it's warming up again with a chance some areas of western Nevada could inch close to 100 by Sunday into next week, according to the National Weather Service.
Nevadans have always been skeptical about placing bets on the weather. Given this, forecasters say we can at least expect drier days and hotter weather ahead.
High pressure will build across the region resulting in a rapid warm-up in temperatures this week. This will provide a sharp swing in high temperatures where the region could see a 40 degree jump in highs from this past Monday into next Tuesday. Temperatures may reach record levels by early next week.
A weather system up in Canada may bring residual windy conditions Thursday with afternoon gusts 20 to 25 mph as a wave passes the region. A few locations north of Interstate 80 may gust up to 30 mph.
Temperatures will then rebound well above average by the weekend with mostly sunny skies, light daily mountain breezes, and no precipitation in the forecast. River flows will increase as higher elevation snow begins to melt rapidly late this week and into early less week, according to the weather service.
The resurgent ridging will allow for heat to build. Triple digit highs will become a strong possibility Sunday into early next week, a little less typical for the month of June, NWS forecasters say.
For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, high temperatures will be in the low 80s Wednesday, mid 80s Thursday, around 90 Friday, low 90s Saturday and by Sunday the mid 90s.
