Carson City Doppelgangers donates pool tables, vehicles to community organizations
The final games of pool were being played today at Doppelgangers Brewery and Tap Room in Carson City, with the winners being Carson City community organizations.
Doppelgangers donated four, 9-foot pool tables valued at $24,000, to the Carson City Senior Center, the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, and the Community Counseling Center. The donation is to make way for an expansion of the stage area at the bar/restaurant to complement the Tap Room, which opened last month.
"This is an example of the community giving back to the community," said Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell. "When times are tough like these, the more we can take advantage of the resources like the ones donated here today by Doppelgangers, the better we are all going to be." The Carson City Senior Center will receive two of the tables.
A benefactor of one of the tables is the Community Counseling Center. Office Manager Susan Centanni said the generous donation is very much appreciated.
"We are very happy and we thank the Adams family and Doppelgangers for their generous donation," Centanni said. "It will be put to good use by our clients."
The donation of a table to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada will keep children entertained for years to come, said Mary Pierczynski, board president and former Carson City School District superintendent.
"This is wonderful for the kids. They are fabulous tables," she said. "We have hundreds of kids at the club everyday. This will provide them a new opportunity and a chance to play and learn this game. We really appreciate the gift and we want Doppelgangers to know that we really appreciate it."
Plans to move the tables out of the Brewery were made a couple months ago with the expansion of the Tap Room, said Courtney Hawk-Clouser, CEO of Doppelgangers. The idea to donate them to local organizations was something done so the entire community can benefit.
"We thought 'what a better way for these to go than to give to community organizations.' So we called the mayor and he helped us with the selection," Hawk-Clouser said.
Doppelgangers, which also operates a restaurant in Minden, has plans for the Carson City location over the next 45 days. Those plans include expanding the stage area and narrowing the bar. The idea is to have more space for bands to provide a variety of music, dance and dinner show opportunities, Hawk-Clouser said.
In fact, the music venue on Friday nights is something Doppelgangers hopes to expand with the new stage, as well as dinner shows and comedy events, she said.
"We want to make this a fun, safe and exciting place to come to," she said.
The pool tables aren't the only thing Doppelgangers is donating. Three vehicles, including a 15-passenger van will be donated to Western Nevada College, said Bob Fairman, spokesman and friend of the Adams family.
"With the pool tables and the vehicles, it is something where everyone benefits," Fairman said.
On hand for the final pool games was Alan Adams, owner of Doppelgangers.
"We are delighted to be able to donates these tables for such a good cause," Adams said. "We hope it will bring hours of enjoyment for those who play on them and we hope as they play they will remember Doppelgangers."
