Carson City man arrested, caught with stolen pallet jack used to move gifted shrink-wrapped piano
A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of N. Stewart St. and Burton for grand larceny and drug possession after allegedly stealing a pallet jack to move a shrink-wrapped piano on the side of the road.
According to the arrest report, deputies were patrolling the area around 6:15 p.m. Thursday when they spotted a man dragging a pallet jack on Stewart St. with a piano shrink wrapped on top of it.
Deputies stopped and spoke to the man, who gave his name as Istvan Bustamante, and stated he was borrowing the pallet jack to move the piano that “a construction guy down the street” had given to him.
He stated he was borrowing the pallet jack from his place of business, and that his supervisor had let him take it.
However, when deputies spoke to the business, a manager said Bustamante should not be in possession of the pallet jack and wanted to have him arrested. The value of the jack was $1,500.
The manager stated that deputies should leave the pallet jack there and they would come back and pick it up the next day. Deputies removed the piano from the pallet jack and put it to the side of the road.
Deputies transported Bustamante to the Carson City Jail, at which point during a body scan they noticed an object hanging from the front zipper of his jeans. Inside the item deputies located methamphetamine.
Bail: $12,500
