Carson City detectives arrest Yerington man for meth, false ID in beer sting

A Yerington man faces multiple charges including felony drug possession after Carson City authorities arrested him in a sting operation involving the sale of alcohol to minors.
Nicholas Salas, 43, was arrested after a search found methamphetamine, a meth pipe and false identification.
According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, detectives were assigned on May 31 to work outside the AMPM in the 2700 block of Highway 50 East on a shoulder tap detail, which involves using government grant-funded undercover decoys.
These decoys approached a man entering the store, asking him if he would buy them alcohol for $20. The man agreed and was later seen exiting the store with an 18-pack of Budweiser. The man gave the minor decoys the alcohol and that's when detectives made contact with three subjects in a Ford truck.
The detectives identified themselves as Carson City sheriff's officers and showed their badges. A detective asked three of the subjects to walk in front of the truck and place their hands on the hood.
The suspect, Nicholas Salas, would not place his hands on the hood, according to the arrest report. Instead, the man kept trying to place his hands in his pockets. A detective repeated to Salas, in Spanish and in English, to place his hands on the hood. The man refused and was given a pat-down for weapons. The detective searched the subject and felt a glass methamphetamine pipe in the suspect's front left shorts pocket. The detective asked the man if it was a meth pipe and the suspect replied "yes." The suspect gave the detective consent to remove the pipe from the pocket, which was rapped in toilet paper.
The suspect was placed in cuffs and his Miranda rights were read to him. As the detective continued the search he found a plastic bag wrapped with a ball at the end of it. The ball contained two grams of methamphetamine, according to the arrest report.
As the search continued the suspect was carrying a false Nevada ID in his wallet, as well as other information, including a false Social Security card, according to the arrest report.
After a records check confirmed the man had a warrant arrest for DUI, a detective asked the man if his real name was Antonio Montes. The suspect told the officer it was, and the dispatch provided descriptors for Antonio Montes that matched Salas, confirming the alias "Antonio Montes."
The suspect was transported to jail where he then told a deputy that he used the name "Antonio Montes" when he was arrested for DUI.
Salas faces charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, felony false identification to avoid prosecution, felony possession of false identification, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and a misdemeanor traffic warrant. Bail has been set at $32,608.
