Sassafras joins greenUP! as newest member of Green Dining Nevada

greenUP!, an environmental education non-profit working with local businesses, announces partnership with Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint as a member of Green Dining Nevada network of sustainable restaurants.
The newest member of Green Dining Nevada, Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint will be part of greenUP!’s Green Box To-Go Nevada program. The program offers reusable takeout containers to reduce single-use materials in the food industry. Instead, Green Box To-Go creates a circular system where food containers get reused by customers and professionally sanitized by restaurants.
Sassafras owners remark: “We have always been attentive and innovative regarding sustainable practices at Sassafras. When we heard about greenUP! offering reusable takeout containers, we knew that would align with the culture we promote at the restaurant and that we share with our customers.”
Sassafras is a long-time supporter of local partners, including vendors at the farmers market, ensuring every ingredient served in its meals is sourced responsibly. Established in 2011, the restaurant prides itself for treating their staff and customers like family, with some of the members dating since its opening.
Barbara Winter, Northern Nevada Green Dining Coordinator said, “This partnership marks a
significant milestone in our journey, expanding beyond our roots in the Carson City Downtown Green Dining District to embrace the vibrant flavors of Sassafras. Our community of green diners has been asking us to partner with Sassafras, a well-known local experience to all Carson residents. From their globally inspired, sustainable dishes to their unwavering commitment to giving back, Sassafras is truly an embodiment of the sustainability ethos.”

greenUP! is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides environmental education for businesses helping Nevada cut down on waste, reduce valuable resource consumption, and fight climate change in an environmentally safe and cost-effective manner. The Carson Street Green Dining district is a greenUP! project that began in 2019. In 2022, greenUP! worked together with several Northern Nevada sustainability organizations to form the Green Dining Nevada which is now a statewide initiative.
