Did you feel it? 4.1 Earthquake shakes the sierras Friday morning

Playing in the snow probably isn’t an option for this weekend, but Singing in the Rain sure is. The kids of Youth Theater Carson City present a junior adaptation of the musical favorite this weekend and next. The Experimental Aircraft Association hosts ‘Young Eagle’ flights every few months at the Carson Airport to give kids 8 – 17 a plane ride to remember. Help out the Dayton Food Bank during their ‘Stuff-a-Cop-Car’ food drive at the Smith’s in Dayton; unexpired non-perishables of all kinds are appreciated. The Carson City District Attorney’s Office won convictions of two defendants charged with felony offenses this week.

The University of Nevada, Reno’s Seismological Laboratory reports an ongoing swarm of earthquakes near south Reno, in the area of the Mt. Rose highway and I-580.

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Friday the appointment of Becky Harris as chairwoman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Harris will serve as the first female chair of the regulatory board which serves the state’s largest economic industry, gaming.

In an effort to showcase the value of coming to school and being on time, Carson Middle School administrators, social workers and safe school professionals have taken a positive approach to motivate students. On Monday, Jan. 8, the first day back from the holidays, students were welcomed by school officials dressed in dinosaur suits holding giant banners and delivering cheers and “High Fives.”
