Man jailed after kicking in window, door at Carson City church

A 37-year-old Carson City man faces multiple felony charges including possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen firearm and a warrant for grand larceny of a motor vehicle, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Phillip Paul Turner was arrested Wednesday, 2:50 p.m. in the 4600 block of Center Drive. He also faces a felony charge of being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, probation violation and gross misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area in reference to a suspicious vehicle parked on private property. The license plate came back to a business out of Sparks but had no identifying company details. A call was made to the company which then reported a rear license plate of one of its vehicles had been stolen.

Dispatch called for a tow truck as a deputy checked the VIN through dispatch, which it was then determined the vehicle had been stolen out of Reno on Jan. 8. The deputy observed the vehicle looked like someone had been sleeping inside. There was a clothing bag, sleeping bag, rug and miscellaneous boxes, a Samsung phone box with a Walmart receipt and a Glock gun box that was empty.

Deputies then observed a white male adult in the area of Appion Street. A deputy made contact with the man who said he was lost and was trying to cross the freeway. The deputy told the man he had a nice cell phone, which the man saw the cell phone box the officer was holding and then took off running. The officer yelled for the man to stop and eventually pulled him down to the ground. A handgun fell out of the man’s coat. He was handcuffed and arrested. Bail: $72,500.

Deputies arrived and set up a perimeter around the building, and observed the suspect attempt to flee from the west side of the building. He was caught and detained. The door to an office inside the building was kicked in as well. Black boot prints were visible, the arrest report states.

Crum was verbally aggressive with arresting officers but remained physically cooperative. He provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .143 and was booked into custody for suspicion of felony commercial burglary. Bail: $20,000.

According to the arrest report, deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle with suspended registration. The man did not have a license or proof of insurance. During a safety pat down, deputies discovered a small baggie with methamphetamine in the man’s pocket. Also found was a “tooter” straw, commonly used to inhale narcotics. Bail: $4,678.

According to the arrest report, the woman, her boyfriend and her brother were at the residence drinking when the woman became upset and attacked her brother, punching him multiple times in the face. The boyfriend attempted to intervene and was also hit and scratched.

The woman told the arresting deputy she hit her brother over “brother stuff” and would not elaborate further. The deputy observed redness on the left side of her face and a bruise on the left side of her neck. The woman remained vague about what happened, the report states.

The woman’s brother stated he put his sister into a headlock and took her to the ground to stop her from hitting him, according to the arrest report. The woman was determined to be the primary aggressor. Bail: $6,274.
