Carson City Fire Department and its swift water rescue team were dispatched Sunday afternoon to the area of Golden Eagle for a rescue on the Carson River.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 1:24 p.m. for a report a 15-year-old who is not injured but reportedly stuck on a small island in the river, according to dispatch.
Carson City rescue personnel have located the teen and will go in for the rescue. All rivers are running high due to warming temperatures and snowmelt from the Sierra. Carson River at Deer Run Bridge is running at 3,460 cubic feet per second as of Sunday afternoon.
With daytime highs in the 80s this week, the temperatures will produce increased snowmelt, creating high flows in area streams and rivers through the weekend and likely for the next several weeks. The Carson City Fire Department, ahead of the holiday weekend, urged residents and visitors to be careful around the river and encouraged people not to float or swim in it due to the rising, fast moving water.
