NHP identifies Reno man in May 19 fatal crash at IR-80 and Sparks Boulevard off-ramp
The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Reno man who died from injuries in a crash that happened May 19 at IR-80 and the Sparks Boulevard off-ramp.
John Mouchou, 67, the driver of a GMC box truck, died from injuries in the crash, reported to NHP at 12:32 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2021.
A preliminary investigation shows that a silver 2013 Hyundai Genesis was traveling eastbound on IR-80 approaching the Sparks Boulevard off-ramp. A white 1990 GMC box truck was stopped along the south shoulder of the Sparks Boulevard off-ramp, partially blocking the travel lane with its hazard lights activated, according to an NHP news release.
The GMC box truck had stopped to assist a gray 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup that was disabled on the shoulder. The driver of the GMC box truck exited and was in the travel lane between the box truck and the GMC Sierra. The Hyundai entered the off-ramp and struck the GMC box truck, the driver of the GMC box truck, John Mouchou, and the GMC Sierra, according to the news release.
This incident is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) Refer to NHP Case No. 210501319.
