Carson City's Prestige Care senior residents brightened by car parade
Last Friday, Prestige Care’s Carson Tahoe Care Center residents were treated to a socially-distanced car parade outside the facility with a car show at the end.
Tahoe Carson Care Center, located at 1001 Mountain St., is home to memory care residents who were brightened by the car parade and car show, which can help bring back memories from their youth, according to Megan Salisbury, Life Enrichment Director for Carson Tahoe Expressions Memory Care.
“For memory care residents, seeing cars they grew up with can help bring back memories of their youth, and often they open up about stories we hadn’t heard before,” said Salisbury. “It helps us connect with them on a more personal level, while also bringing our residents joy as they reminisce.”
This is not a single effort, but rather a common form of entertainment for Prestige Senior Living communities, said Salisbury.
“Most Prestige Senior Living communities run a car parade, but each community puts their own spin on it,” said Salisbury. “For us, we reach out to local groups we know will bring a unique element to our parade and help entertain our residents. We’re grateful for the support we receive and look forward to doing it again next year!”
Those who helped participate were simply a handful of car enthusiasts who volunteered their time.
