More thunderstorms, snow to fall during this never-ending winter as we head into June
According to the National Weather Service, father winter must have been given a bonus this year because more snow is scheduled to fall in the mountains, and thunderstorms are expected throughout the region, prompting a special weather alert announcement warning to take precautions if out on any bodies of water.
In the 6,500 to 7,500 foot range, 1 to 3 inches is expected, and above 7,500 feet, 5 to 8 inches is expected.
For the valley, it’s rain, rain, and more rain.
There is a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms today, and showers are likely through the weekend, ending with another thunderstorm Monday night.
At present, there is a possibility of thunderstorms Tuesday through Thursday as well.
Nighttime lows will range from the mid 30s to mid 40s, so if you’ve started your garden for the season make sure to take precautions against frost.
Allegedly on Thursday we’ll start to see temperatures in the low to mid 70s, but I wouldn’t start planning any pool parties just yet.
The National Weather Service put out a Special Weather Statement on Saturday morning for the Sierra region, including Eastern Sierra Counties of Northern California, Fernley, Fallon, and even as far as Gerlach.
The statement is as follows:
Latest radar and detailed model trends show an upward trend for showers and thunderstorms through this afternoon. Storms in the Sierra will favor early afternoon, pushing off into the lower deserts by mid to late afternoon and early evening.
Storms will generally move to the east or northeast around 15 to 20 mph. Stronger cells will be capable of small hail, brief heavy downpours and gusty winds. The greatest outflow gust potential will be in the lower elevations of western NV where gusts could approach 40 to 45 mph this afternoon.
Some localized areas of blowing dust and reduced visibility could occur along Highway 95, I-80 and Highway 50 east of the Reno and Carson City area.
If you are on an area lake or doing anything outdoors, remain alert to where storms are relative to where you are. Be prepared to seek shelter.
