Volunteers, veterans team up to plant Memorial Day flags in Carson City
Volunteer families and veterans joined forces Friday, placing hundreds of American flags over the headstones of buried veterans and fallen military Friday at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City.
In a matter of minutes, the fields were lined with streams of red, white and blue before the Memorial Day ceremony.
“When you take a look out here, you think a little bit about the sacrifices these veterans made,” said Head Volunteer Ron Gutzman. “The people here today realize that and take time out of their day to come here, which always brings a smile to my face.”
The flags will be removed Monday at 4 p.m. and help will be greatly appreciated, Gutzman said.
The Memorial Day Ceremony will take place at Lone Mountain Cemetery on Monday, May 28 at 1 p.m.
The Marine Corps will also hold its annual Memorial Day celebration of Native American veterans at the Stewart Indian School Cemetery at 10 a.m.
