Carson City man jailed after break-in, gun theft at Cal-Ranch
A Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday morning on multiple charges including burglary and possessing five stolen firearms after he allegedly broke into the Cal-Ranch store on North Carson Street, a sheriff’s deputy said.
Jerrion Matlock, 23, was taken into custody at 12:34 a.m. According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded to an alarm at the store and learned that a man was seen running. Deputies located the suspect walking in the 600 block of Hot Springs Road, demanded him to stop, the suspect took off running and dropped a handgun in the process.
Deputies caught up and took him to the ground, where he resisted arrest. He was ordered to stop resisting or he would be tasered. He stopped and was cuffed.
When deputies asked for the man’s name, he provided the name of “I want a lawyer,” according to the arrest report.
Deputies returned to the area of the chase and found the firearm that fell to the ground was a Glock 17 with a string and price tag attached.
Officers responded to the Cal-Ranch store and found a shattered window on the north side of the store and located an additional firearm.
Inside the store the glass case that contained multiple firearms was found smashed. Located in the glass case was a thermos used to break the glass. The top shelf of the case was missing multiple firearms.
Cal-Ranch was able to confirm that five firearms were taken, and provided deputies their make and serial numbers. Video surveillance showed the suspect enter the store, go over to the gun case, break the glass, remove multiple firearms and exit the store.
Deputies interviewed the suspect due to outstanding weapons that had not been recovered. Matlock said there were two accomplices.
He was booked on the following charges: Commercial burglary, possession of five stolen firearms, both felonies, and three misdemeanors: Carrying a concealed firearm, obstructing an officer and a failure to appear warrant. Bail: $149,039.
