Man nearly collides with Carson City motorcycle deputy; jailed for meth, cocaine and firearms

UPDATE: A near collision with a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy on motorcycle patrol led to the arrest Wednesday of a man for multiple alleged felony drug and firearm offenses.

Robert Martin Rodriguez, 60, of Cedar Park, Texas was taken into custody in the 300 block of South Roop Street at around 12:30 p.m. following an investigation. The suspect is alleged to have been talking on a cell phone when he allegedly failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, nearly striking the deputy who was riding a CCSO patrol motorcycle.

The suspect was arrested for the following alleged felony offenses: Possession of drugs with intent to sell, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine and being an ex-felon in possession of firearms (two semi-automatic handguns). He was also arrested for suspicion of six counts of gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription. And he was also booked for the following alleged misdemeanor offenses: Cell phone while driving, obstructed windshield, failure to yield right of way at a stop sign and two counts possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the booking report, the CCSO motor patrol deputy made a vehicle stop after nearly being hit by the driver, who was observed talking on a cell phone when he failed to yield at the stop sign.

The driver told the deputy he was not on his phone. He was asked for his license, proof of insurance and registration. The driver provided a license, and proof of insurance on his cell phone. The officer noted the suspected appeared fidgety, the report states. A K9 unit responded where the dog did an exterior sniff of the vehicle. Before the suspect exited the vehicle, he rolled up his windows and locked the doors. The dog did an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle.

Deputies continued the investigation with a search of the vehicle. Multiple bags and bundles of drugs were found, amounting to 28.2 grams of methamphetamine and 13.4 grams of cocaine, amounting to 41.6 grams in total of illicit drugs, the report states.

Also located were multiple pills, some a controlled substance and others not a controlled substance, according to the report.

Also found in a firearm box was a 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun and a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, of which there were 18 bullets of Streak Visual Ammunition for the 9 mm. The report mistakenly said it was 40 mm Hi Point semiautomatic hand gun.

The suspect had a felony arrest in California with a felony severity disposition conviction, which makes him an ex-felon not to be in possession of firearms. Bail: $20,000.

In other arrests:
— A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Thursday morning for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant and obstructing an officer. The man allegedly fled on foot while officers were conducting a battery investigation at a Bath Street residence. Bail: $912.

— A 37-year-old woman was arrested early Thursday morning for violation of bail conditions, obstructing an officer and gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription. Bail: $3,000 cash. Also arrested was a 45-year-old Carson City man for misdemeanor violation of bail conditions and obstructing an officer. Bail: $3,000 cash.

— A 28-year-old Carson City man, Dakota Howell, who was already in custody at the Carson City Detention Facility, was booked Wednesday for suspicion of felony grand larceny of a vehicle in connection to an April vehicle burglary. The booking was made based on security camera footage of the incident and timeline, the report states. Bail: $10,000.
