Suspect identified in Carson City Wells Fargo bank robbery

On Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at about 4:18 p.m. the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to the Wells Fargo Bank located at 1550 East William Street for a reported bank robbery that had just occurred. According to witnesses the suspect approached the bank teller and demanded money.

The suspect took the money from the teller and fled the bank with the stolen money in hand. The suspect was described as having dyed orange hair and wearing a blue winter jacket. No weapons were used or seen during the commission of the bank robbery.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office personnel arrived in the area and set up a containment perimeter. The suspect’s blue jacket was recovered a short distance from the bank. At about 4:43 p.m. a citizen called 911 and reported witnessing a man shoving money into his pockets in the area of 1764 Russell Street.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office personnel responded and apprehended 23-year-old Jesus Monroy-Rojas, whose hair and general description matched the description provided by witnesses at the bank.

Monroy-Rojas was in possession of a large sum of money at the time he was contacted by Sheriff’s Office personnel and ultimately admitted he was responsible for the robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank.

Jesus Monroy-Rojas was transported to the Carson City Jail where he was booked for robbery.

Carson City, Nev. - The Nevada Department of Public Safety (DPS) Capitol Police Division partnered with Toys For Tots for the annual toy donation event held at the Capitol.

Toys collected from state-agency sponsored locations and a check from the Nevada State Law Enforcement Officers' Association (NSLEOA) were presented to the Carson City Toys For Tots organization, Santa Claus, and the U.S. Marine Corp on Thursday, December 13.

The Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation of Reno has awarded $2,500 to the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada to support exhibit renovations.

This foundation grant will provide a much needed face lift to several exhibit spaces including the STEM room in the museum's basement.

A 39-year-old Dayton man was arrested on a felony failure to appear warrant Monday evening.

Jerry Frank Grassel, Jr. was transferred from a Lyon County deputy on a felony failure to appear warrant issued out of Carson City after failing to appear at his Nov. 26 sentencing hearing.

Grassel was charged with the offense of Obtaining Money by False Pretenses, a category B felony, according to the warrant.

From November 18, 2018 through December 2, 2018, law enforcement officers throughout the state participated in the Joining Forces program.

While Nevada law enforcement continues to conduct traffic stops on a daily basis for a multitude of violations, the focus of those two weeks was “Click-It-Or-Ticket” seatbelt enforcement.

RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — The Washoe County Health District is reporting the first flu-related death of the 2018/19 flu season in Washoe County.

According to the health district, the victim was over 65 years old and at risk for flu-related complications due to underlying medical conditions in addition to their advanced age.

It does not appear that the individual had been vaccinated this year for the flu.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – A routine review process by the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium identified a question where student performance didn’t appear in line with expectation. A deeper analysis by the Smarter Balanced staff resulted in the removal of the question from 8th grade math. The result is all students that answered the question saw their performance increase. Moreover there was no material change to any school ratings.

Early Monday morning Daniel Nunez of Carson City was arrested on the charges of Burglary, possession of a burglary tool, and violation of a suspended sentence.

The 28-year-old was arrested after allegedly robbing a local laundromat.
