Scouts celebrate science and technology, engineering and math at recent event
With a theme of STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics— Nevada Area Council held its annual Scout Show at the South Reno Home Depot on Saturday, May 7.
Hundreds of Cub Scouts and Webelos from around the region, including those from Carson City, Douglas and Lyon counties, along with their parents and siblings, flocked to the wide variety of booths set up to provide a day of fun events with the STEM theme.
Of course, probably the most popular event for both boys and girls is the Cubmobiles. Participants don helmets and then await a push of the cart by adults to get the homemade vehicles down the ramp and onto the asphalt lot surface. Everybody has to wait their turn as the event is so popular.
Other activities included building paper rocket ships and then watching them soar into the sky, the slingshot range, and creating birdhouses from kits. Booths were set up by the Discovery Museum, 4 Wheel Parts, Land Surveyors and the Astronomical Society. All registered participants received a STEM-themed project from the Council.
