Jazz and Beyond 2021 Poster Art Contest Winner Announced
The Jazz & Beyond festival committee announces that the winner of the 2021 poster and program cover art contest is Katelynn Lehmann.
Her design, “Listen to the Music,” was selected from nine entries to highlight the 18th annual Carson City music and art festival.
Lehmann is a twenty-three-year-old artist completing her bachelor’s degree in graphic design.
She moved to the northern Nevada area from southern California over a year ago and says she has greatly appreciated the change of scenery.
She is focusing on the digital format and making art that meets marketing needs.
More information is on her website katelynlehmannart.com.
“Jazz & Beyond celebrates the talent of our region," said festival committee co-chair David Bugli, President of the Mile High Jazz Band Association, producer of the festival. "Katelynn Lehmann’s poster design is an outstanding contribution to the festival.”
“Volunteers, sponsors, and advertisers help us make the 17-day festival a favorite for residents and visitors, and help us keep most performances admission free. Because of ever-changing COVID-19 guidelines, planning the 2021 festival is a challenge. We are committed to presenting events safely for performers and audience, as we did last year.”
Jazz & Beyond will feature several free concerts at many Carson City venues. It opens with a Roaring ‘20s themed party with bassist Scot Marshall’s Brass Knuckles band on Friday, August 13, outdoors at the Governor’s Mansion.
The country-themed Day at the Silver Saddle Ranch will be on Sunday, August 15. The festival will close with the Reno Jazz Orchestra on Sunday, August 29, at the Capital Amphitheater.
The festival will include a two-day Open Studios Tour, Saturday, August 21, and Sunday, August 22, with artists demonstrating their work at about a dozen locations.
This year they include private studios, the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum, the Carson City Historical Society’s Carriage House, and on Sunday only, the historic Bliss Mansion.
The artists’ works will also be on display at the Nevada Artists Association (NAA) Gallery, 449 W. King Street, from August 1 to September 10, as part of the NAA Summer Show.
A schedule of events will be on the website JazzCarsonCity.com and will be updated frequently.
Annual Jazz & Beyond Festivals are presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and have been supported by grants from the Carson City Cultural Commission, the Nevada Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts, and by private donations.
For 2021, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development provided additional funding through its Nevada Pandemic Emergency Technical Support Grant.
