Carson City area weather: Warmup through midweek then sharp cool down into weekend
Warm afternoon temperatures are expected around the Carson City region through Thursday, with a cool down to possibly below average temperatures by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Low pressure developing off the California coast will bring increasing chances for showers and a few thunderstorms from mid week into the weekend, with breezes increasing by Friday.
In the short term, high pressure with generally dry conditions and temperatures well above average are expected this week, with slight chances of thunderstorms over higher terrain of the Sierra mainly south of Highway 50, according to the weather service.
A surface flow will be easterly Monday, keeping conditions slightly cooler with temperatures in the mid 70s for western Nevada and the mid to upper 60s for Sierra valleys. Temperatures may climb to the upper 70s Tuesday through Thursday, forecasters say.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible along the Sierra crest from Mono County in the early afternoons to around the west side of Lake Tahoe late in the afternoons.
The Sierra Front and first ranges in western Nevada like the Pine Nuts may see some isolated thunderstorms by Wednesday. For Thursday, increasing moisture and instability in southerly flow ahead of it will bring slight chances for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening around the Carson City region. This will be especially true for the Sierra and adjacent lower valleys of western Nevada, including the Pine Nut and Sweetwater ranges.
Friday is expected to bring a cool down that may last into the weekend, with breezy conditions and high temperatures in the mid 60s for Carson City, low 60s by Saturday and near 60 by Sunday, according to the weather service.
