Grow Your Own, Nevada! series continues online tonight with 'Lower Risk Pesticide Products and Practices'
The University of Nevada, Reno Extension Office is hosting a Grow Your Own, Nevada! workshop series covering the basics of gardening in the Silver State with a variety of topics.
The eight “Grow Your Own, Nevada!” classes being offered in spring statewide will help Nevadans who want to get on a path to more sustainable, local, healthy living by growing and preserving more of their own food.
The classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays via zoom from 6 to 8 p.m.
The workshops will provide gardeners and those interested in growing healthy foods with a “back-to-the-basics” guide to great harvests in Nevada.
Last week the topics covered were "Growing in Northern Nevada soils and Nutrients and Fertilizers."
This week, the topics covered will be "The Art and Science of Hot Composting" and "Lower Risk Pesticide Products and Practices."
Due to the hardships of COVID-19, the series is free to all.
“In light of developments regarding COVID-19, the Grow Your Own, Nevada! spring class series will continue to be offered for free in an online format in lieu of in-person classes,” a series spokesperson stated on the site.
Other topics include Berry Growing, Cover Crops, Saving Seeds, and more.
