Carson City emergency crews perform rescue in Ash Canyon, second incident in 4 days
In a second incident in Ash Canyon in the past four days, Carson City Fire Department responded late Wednesday afternoon to locate an elderly person suffering a medical condition while hiking in the canyon.
Dispatch received an emergency call sometime after 3:30 p.m. of a hiker in the canyon who had experienced heart problems. Rescue personnel attempting to get into the canyon requested a Care Flight response to help locate the person.
Emergency personnel were able to locate the hiker, who was deep within the canyon and in an area where it is difficult for vehicles to get in. Carson City Fire Department and paramedic personnel made contact with the hiker at around 4:22 p.m and began treating the patient on scene.
The patient was conscious and was able to walk, according to personnel on the scene relaying information to Carson City dispatchers.
This was the second incident at Ash Canyon in the past few days. On Sunday, a 93-year-old woman was located after spending the night on a trail after her vehicle became stuck.
Carson City Search and Rescue began that search on Saturday night in urban areas and learned later the woman was stuck in the canyon in her vehicle. The woman was found and in good health at the time of the rescue.
