Carson City deputies arrest pair for child endangerment after letting children play with phone wallet containing methamphetamine

A 35-year-old Dayton woman and a 35-year-old Dayton man were arrested in the area of College Parkway and Roop for three felony counts of child neglect and endangerment, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of paraphernalia.
According to the arrest report, Christina Leanna Leon and Jaime Enrique Leon were arrested by Special Enforcement Team (SET) deputies after driving with expired temporary paper registration tags on their vehicle.
Deputies stopped the vehicle and approached the car, noticing three juveniles in the car: a 13-year-old, a 2-year-old and a 7-year-old. Neither the 2-year-old nor the 7-year-old were secured in a child safety seat.
Deputies noticed that beneath the driver, Jaime’s, feet there was a battery on the floorboard between his feet that appeared to be connected to the vehicle. Deputies were concerned the battery between his feet could prevent Jaime from properly operating the vehicle, according to the report. Jaime stated he had connected the jumper cables to the battery and the vehicle battery to charge it.
While deputies spoke with the driver, they noticed the following inside the vehicle:
- Food items that appeared to be rotten and had mold growing on them
- Soiled dirty diapers laying within the vehicle
- Baby bottles with spoiled milk or baby formula inside
- Numerous clothing items in the front passenger seat preventing the passenger, Christina, from placing her feet on the floor board
- In the back seat there were numerous clothing items, trash and water bottles
- Tools and other hard objects that could have become projectiles if the vehicle had been involved in a crash, injuring the passengers inside
- The two small children’s clothing appeared to dirty and soiled, and the children’s “entire bodies were dirty.”
While issuing a citation to Jaime for the lack of child restraints, deputies gained consent to search the vehicle from Jaime and Christina.
Deputies located a small amount of methamphetamine inside a cell phone wallet case on top of the dash board between Jaime and Christina.
Jaime admitted that while they were at Walmart, the children were using the phone that contained the methamphetamine inside the case.
Child Protective Services arrived on scene and took custody of the three children. Jaime and Christina were taken into custody.
Bail for each: $43,637
— A 54-year-old transient man was arrested on three contempt of court warrants issued out of Carson City on April 7, 2021.
The man was transported from the Douglas County jail to the Carson City jail on the warrants.
Bail: $1,980 cash only
