Carson City arrests: Man jailed for domestic battery, video shows victim grabbed, pushed to ground
A 39-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
At approximately 10:54 p.m. a deputy responded to a casino in the 3800 block of South Carson Street for a report of domestic battery.
When deputies arrived staff advised a woman was crying in a chair near the bar. The woman told deputies that her boyfriend of several years had hit her and knocked her over while she was gambling at a slot machine. She advised she did not know what the argument was about, but that he hit her in the arm where she had just received her COVID-19 shot and had knocked her over.
The victim stated she was not sure how the man knocked her over but said she had not been hit in the face. The deputy did not see any injuries on the woman, who declined transport by Carson City Fire Department ambulance.
Casino security showed the officer footage of the woman sitting in a chair facing away from the camera while the suspect was standing behind watching. He can be seen reaching for something in front of the victim who attempts to stop him. The man continues then becomes physically aggressive with the woman, trying to take something away from her.
The victim moves her chair sideways some and kicks the suspect in the shin area. The man then grabs the woman in the head area and removes her from her seat, causing her to fall onto the ground. He then leaves the area on foot, according to the report.
Dispatch advised the suspect was waiting to speak with a deputy at a nearby fast food restaurant parking lot. When the officer arrived, the man said he and the woman had been arguing, and that she kicked him in the testicles and then he left. He said that he had pushed her to get away from him but that he had not harmed the woman.
Since the security footage showed the man starting the physical altercation, the kick to the shin from the victim while she was seated that appeared to create a distance of defense, and the man removing the woman from her chair, the deputy determined the man was the primary aggressor. He was arrested. Bail: $3,137.
