Carson City arrests: Attempted carjacker tried to pull victim out of car near children's bus stop

A man was arrested Friday for suspicion of attempted robbery, battery with intent to commit robbery and other alleged felony offenses in an attempted carjacking that happened near a school bus stop, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

William Clifford Kirst, 39, listed as a transient, was taken into custody at 8:11 a.m. He also was booked for suspicion of attempted grand larceny of a motor vehicle and burglary of a motor vehicle, all felony offenses.

According to the booking report, CCSO deputies responded after a person called 911 dispatch advising he saw a male trying to yank a female out of her vehicle and then fleeing. The reporting party followed the suspect to the corner of William Street and Saliman Road, describing the male as wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and having a backpack.

Deputies located the suspect sitting on the north side of a parking lot, and detained him. He was read his Miranda warning and asked if he wanted to give his account of the incident. The man stated he was having a bad day, then invoked his right to remain silent, the arrest report states.

Deputies interviewed the reporting party who positively identified Kirst as the suspect. Deputies interviewed the victim who stated she was on North Carson Meadows near East Telegraph dropping off her kids at the school bus stop.

She said after the children exited the vehicle she made a u-turn on North Carson Meadows and parked on the northwest corner, facing south so she could watch her children board the bus. The victim stated she looked down and picked up her cell phone when the driver's side door suddenly flew open and said the man began pulling on her arms and shoulders shouting "get out of the car."

The victim stated she was shocked and asked the man what he was doing, and shouted at him to stop. The man kept repeating "get out of the car" as he reached across her lap and unhooked her seatbelt, trying to pull her out, the report states.

The incident attracted the attention of several neighbors who began running toward her vehicle, prompting the suspect to run off, the report states. The victim was uninjured but clearly shaken up over the incident, the arrest report states.

Deputies spoke with others at the scene of the crime, who described the situation, where the suspect opened the driver's side door and started pulling on the woman's arms, the report states. Bail: $50,000 bondable.
