Nowruz 'New Year' celebration at Casino Fandango in Carson City to benefit Veterans Healing Camp

Event Date:
April 15, 2023 - 5:00pm

Veterans Healing Camp will celebrate the theme “Roaring 20’s” at the 7th annual Nowruz “New Year” Celebration Feast on Saturday, April 15. Join us on our trip back in time to revive some good times. You are invited to join us from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Casino Fandango Grand Ballroom in Carson City.

Please invite or sponsor a veteran to your table for this beautiful and festive event that features good time, great food, live music, dancing, a silent auction, door prizes, and more. All proceeds will benefit a local grassroots non-profit, the Veterans Healing Camp.

The event will features honoring our veterans from all branches of united State military. We will ask all our veterans to stand up as their service branch theme song is played on the bagpipe.

In addition, if you have a loved one that is absent, we encourage you to stand up and do the stand in their place. A very special By Herb Hammerstaedt recognitions to the Vietnam veteran Paris Davis, who was awarded the Medal of Honor after his paperwork was lost for sixty years and Ernest R. Werts the 101 years old USN of WW II.

“History repeats itself in many different formats. Looking back to the end of World War I, that led to the Roaring 20’s, which is best known for its lively and great social fun and gleaming debauchery. Now that we are exiting long seasons of COVID, whether catastrophes such as fire season and freezing winter, I thought revisiting the great old time would be uplifting for all.” - Shahla Fadaie, founder of Veterans Healing Camp.

Nowruz is the ancient Persian “New Year” celebrated since 1700 B.C. that occurs on the first day of spring at the vernal equinox. Nowruz it is the time to gather with friends and family to eat, drink, and celebrate a new life and a new beginning together.

The celebration begins at 5 p.m. with fun and fellowship as we honor our Veterans for their service. The American Legion Color Guard will present the flag of our nation as local bagpipe artist Sean Cummings performs a beautiful version of Amazing Grace. The delicious dinner buffet feast starts at 6 p.m. with a selection of great food and dessert.

A central part of our celebration is the traditional Nowruz fire jump. We will use the energy of the fires to fuel rebirth and new life, releasing all the negative events from last year. The fire jump symbolism is to forgive and forget, put the past behind, and to invite health, happiness, and prosperity with new beginnings.

The party continues into the night with live music and dancing by local musician Randy Ide and his amazing keyboard skills. There will also be a silent auction and a door prize drawing. Welcome new Spring life with this memorable tribute to our Veterans. It will be an unforgettable evening for all of us.

The ticket donation for the exciting Nowruz “New Year” Celebration Feast to benefit Veterans Healing Camp is only $40, and just $10 for children. Reserve two tables of 6 for only $430 and save $50! Tickets are available at the Casino Fandango, Club Fandango or by contacting Shahla Fadaie at 775-781-2394. Credit cards accepted.
