Carson City Health and Human Services: vaccine appointments aren't filling up, 10 percent no-show during events
Carson City Health and Human Services Director Nikki Aaker gave a COVID-19 update regarding vaccines, contraction statistics, and more during the Board of Supervisor’s meeting on Thursday.
Sixteen percent of Carson City residents have become fully vaccinated at this point in time. The Nevada Health Response dashboard incorrectly provided an over-inflated amount of data for Carson City but has now been fixed.
Thus far, 1.2 million doses have been administered statewide as of Thursday, with 32.34 percent of the total Nevada population have initiated the vaccine, meaning they’ve received their first vaccine.
In Carson City, 26,148 total doses have been administered, and 35.76 percent of the population aged 16 years and older have initiated their vaccine.
Other findings:
— 34.27 percent of Douglas County aged 16 years and older have initiated their vaccine.
— 25.9 percent of Lyon County aged 16 years and older have initiated their vaccine.
— 9.51 percent of Storey County aged 16 years and older have initiated their vaccine.
One noteworthy piece of information is the fact that while vaccines are going to be opened to the general population on April 5, vaccine appointments through CCHHS have not been filling up. Additionally, at the vaccine events themselves, there have been a 10 percent no-show.
According to Aaker, the highest places of transmission are community-based transmission, household transmission and through the schools.
Throughout the Quad-County, there are currently four vaccination events that still have appointments. To make a COVID-19 vaccination appointment visit gethealthycarsoncity.org.
“We’re asking the public to have appointments at one place,” said Aaker. “What we are finding is that we’re having a 10 percent no-show. That can be from people having two or more appointments at different locations. Please cancel appointments if you aren’t going to make them because it takes away from other individual.”
Aaker also noted that the Pfizer vaccine is for those aged 16 and above while the others are for those aged 18 and above. You can choose which vaccine to sign up for during the appointment creation.
