Dayton man jailed for not registering as a sex offender
A 47-year-old man was arrested Monday in the area of Arrowhead and Centennial Park Drive in Carson City for allegedly failing to register as a sex offender.
Manuel Jesus Zavala of Dayton taken into custody at 4:43 p.m. on the felony charge and three misdemeanors: driving on a revoked or suspended license, speeding and failure to appear.
According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy was driving westbound on Arrowhead Drive when he saw a gray sedan driving eastbound going an estimated 48 mph in a 35 mph zone. The deputy stopped the vehicle and asked Zavala for his license. The man said he did not have his driver's license on him and identified himself along with his age, date of birth and Social Security number.
A computer check showed the man to have a warrant out of Lyon County for failure to appear. A computer check also showed Zavala failed his annual sex offender verification, has not registered since 2012 and that his California license is suspended. Zavala has an expired Nevada identification card only. He was arrested and booked on the charges. Bail: $7,927.
