Child abuse prevention pinwheel ceremonies happening Friday in Carson City, Lyon County
Community partners will plant pinwheels at the legislative lawn Friday in Carson City and multiple locations in Lyon County.
The month of April marks National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Statewide, governmental and community agencies, businesses, and families are encouraged to wear blue on April 1 to help us spread the message that every child deserves a great childhood.
Advocates to End Domestic Violence and Prevent Child Abuse Nevada will host the annual pinwheel planting ceremony at that Nevada State Legislature on Friday in Carson City to help spread awareness about how the community can help Nevada’s children and families be safe, healthy and happy.
The Friday, April 1, 2022 events in Carson City and Lyon County are to symbolize every child’s right to a safe, healthy, and happy life and to impress upon communities that child abuse and neglect are serious problems, organizers said.
COVID-19 has increased stress in families across Nevada, and families need the state now more than ever to put them first, organizers said.
The Carson City event will be held at 10 a.m. at the Nevada State Legislature lawn. The Pinwheels for Prevention ceremony will include a panel of guest speakers and a performance by children in local choirs, followed by the planting of hundreds of pinwheels in the lawn. We'd love for you to join us to help spread awareness and hope.
Meanwhile, Lyon County Human Services in partnership with other community organizations such as the Lyon County District Attorney's Office, Juvenile Probation, Lyon County School District, Lyon County CASA, and the Division of Children and Family Services of the State of Nevada will be out planting pinwheels on Friday, April 1 at 10 a.m. at the following Lyon County Locations:
— Dayton: Our Park, 215 Lincoln Highway
— Fernley: In Town Park, S R 95A
— Silver Springs: Silver Stage Elementary School (front lawn)
— Yerington: Rocket Park, 15 Pearl Street
Community participation is encouraged, wear blue and come out and help plant pinwheels to promote the reminder "that we can each play a part in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families in our community."
