Carson City area weather: Windy overnight then warming for remainder of week
A cold weather pattern will sweep briefly through the Sierra, western Nevada and Carson City region later Sunday, bringing brisk winds and cooler temperatures, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
The dry cold front is expected to bring increased southwest winds this afternoon into tonight. Peak winds are expected this evening into early Monday morning, before switching to the north on Monday as the front passes. This is a little bit unusual with many valleys staying gusty overnight, according to the weather service.
For Western Nevada and the eastern Sierra, gusts on the order of 25-35 mph with wind prone spots hitting 40 mph are forecast, prompting a special weather statement from the National Weather Service. Gusts 40-50 mph are likely for far northeast California and northwest Nevada including Cedarville and Gerlach. Areas of blowing dust can be expected.
Intermittent issues for high profile vehicles are possible on wind prone roadways such as 580 through Washoe Valley, 395 in Lassen County, 95 near Walker Lake, and 395 near the Mammoth Airport, according to the weather service.
Choppy waters should be expected on lakes this afternoon, tonight, and Monday. Pyramid Lake could see periods of rougher water as the lake is more exposed to strong winds with this particular front.
We can expect sunny skies and warming temperatures through the remainder of the week around the Carson City area, with daytime high temperatures near 60 for Monday and Tuesday, near 70 on Wednesday and low 70s by Thursday.
