Proposed Superintendent rejects Carson City School District's offer, ends employment negotiations
According to the Carson City School District, Dr. John Goldhardt who was previously chosen by the school board after multiple interviews, rejected the proposal of contracted employment offered.
"Following the Tuesday, March 22, 2022, school board meeting, President Varner refined the terms of the superintendent proposal as directed by the board of trustees and extended the proposal to Dr. John Goldhardt," the school district said in a statement released Friday. "Subsequently, Dr. Goldhardt rejected the proposal and withdrew as a candidate for the superintendent position with the Carson City School District."
President Richard Varner intends to agendize the next steps in the superintendent search at a meeting in the near future, the school district continued.
After an over-three-hour-long school board meeting on Tuesday, the school board came to an agreement on the contract to send Dr. Goldhardt, after multiple discussions with the proposed superintendent led to much confusion with the board.
Dr. Goldhardt requested an increased salary than what was offered, relocation fees, and an extended severance package, among other requests.
Dr. Goldhardt also requested that the format of any evaluation of him and his work be decided upon by both himself and the board.
After much discussion, the board chose to offer the original contract, prior to any discussions, which did not include any of Dr. Goldhardt's requests.
This is a developing story. To learn more about the contract and Dr. Goldhardt's request, see our previous reporting here.
