Two Carson City businesses cited for selling alcohol to underage decoy
Eight Carson City businesses were checked Tuesday for alcohol compliance with two businesses selling to a minor, according to the Carson City's Sheriff's Office.
A 17-year old decoy was sent into local businesses and attempted to purchase alcohol. When the decoy was asked, he would present his identification. The minor's identification had the words “under 18 years old until December 2017,” clearly on it, according to the sheriff's office.
The following six businesses passed the compliance check:
— RK Food Market at 500 Hot Springs Dr.
— Maverick at 1451 E. College Prky.
— Maverick at 3922 Hwy 50 E.
— Food Max at 3325 Hwy 50 E.
— Sassafras at 1500 Old Hot Springs Rd.
— Bully's Sports Bar at 35360 N. Carson St.
The following two businesses failed the compliance check serving alcohol to the decoy and citations were issued:
— Cigarettes For Less at 2182 Hwy 50 East.
— One Stop Food at 3150 E. Nye Lane.
When a compliance check is failed, the person who sells the alcohol to the minor is issued a citation for $640 and they are ordered to attend an Alcohol Server Training Class. Also, the business owner or person who holds the alcohol license is fined $100 for the first offense.
According to the sheriff's office, the goal is to have 100 percent compliance and have no one sell alcohol to minors. Compliance checks are designed to keep alcohol out of the hands of minors, keeping them safe.
