Carson City area weather: Warm, sunny and in the 70s this week, changes possible Sunday
The first week of spring 2022 will usher in above seasonal temperatures around Carson City, western Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin, according to the National Weather Service.
Record highs are possible, with a few spots reaching near 80 degrees in the Reno area. The weekend closes out with another weather system that could bring cooler temperatures, gusty winds, rain and chances of snow in the Sierra.
According to NWS forecasters, a ridge of high pressure will continue to build overhead for a continued warming trend, with highs Tuesday reaching around 7-10 degrees above average before much warmer temperatures arrive for mid to late week. The ridge may bring winds over the Sierra Crest, 40 mph to 60 mph in the higher elevations.
The ridge may flatten some Wednesday and Thursday, slowing the warming trend through the weekend. This may delay the potential for 80 degrees in the western Nevada valleys until Friday.
On Friday the potential for more lower elevation areas reaching 80 is possible before slightly cooler conditions arrive Saturday around western Nevada valleys, with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s for the valleys and lower to mid 60s around Lake Tahoe.
The warmer temperatures associated with the ridge will continue until the late weekend before a trough develops in the eastern Pacific. Precipitation amounts with this system still remain uncertain.
Locally, temperatures around Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas will be near 70 on Tuesday, mid-70s Wednesday and Thursday and Friday in the mid to upper 70s.
For the Lake Tahoe Basin around south shore, highs will be in the upper 50s Tuesday, low 60s Wednesday and Thursday and mid-60s Friday.
