Lane, speed reductions on US-50 in Mound House, Dayton for concrete barrier rail repair begin Monday
Lane closures will take place on U.S. 50 in Moundhouse and Dayton beginning March 18 as the Nevada Department of Transportation replaces concrete barrier rail in the median of the roadway.
One lane will intermittently be closed in each direction on one-mile segments of U.S. 50 between Baldwine Lane in Moundhouse and Winters Parkway in Dayton from 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays March 18 through mid-April. Speed limits will be reduced to 45mph.
While most delays will be moderate, travel delays of up to 30 minutes can be expected through the work zone. The road work schedule is subject to change.
The work is part of an NDOT project which will replace and improve sections of roadway barrier rail and guardrail with new, higher barrier rail on the following roadways:
- Interstate 580- just north of Eastlake Boulevard in Washoe Valley
- McCarran Boulevard – in two locations, one near North Virginia Street and one near Mira Loma Drive
- USA Parkway- in multiple locations, including near U.S. 50 and directly south of the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center
- Slide Mountain Road (State Route 878) near Mt. Rose Ski
The new barrier rail will replace existing guardrail and older barrier rail for enhanced safety and more efficient maintenance. The more modern, heavier barrier rail will help further reduce the potential of cross-over crashes, and in many places will provide for easier maintenance and replacement of any barrier rail hit in crashes.
