Huge boulder closes Kings Canyon Trails following mudslide in Carson City
A huge boulder was pushed down during a mudslide above the Kings Canyon trail system Tuesday, leading to the closure of the Kings Canyon Waterfall Trail and the North Kings Loop trail.
Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space encourages residents to stay aware as the storms continue.
“As the snow from this epic winter melts, saturated soils and swollen creeks and rivers are creating conditions that could potentially be hazardous,” a spokesperson said. “Everyone who is venturing outside is advised to exercise caution. Look, listen, and be aware of your surroundings.”
Rain and the potential for thunderstorms will continue through 9 p.m. tonight in Carson City. Wednesday through Saturday should provide a break from precipitation, with another storm arriving Sunday through Wednesday.
Keep storm drains free of debris and ice to reduce flooding. Stay away from areas where mudslides or avalanches are likely.
