Douglas County woman identified in fatal crash on US-395 in Gardnerville
An 85-year-old Douglas County woman died in a vehicle crash March 6 in the area of US-395 and Grant Avenue in Gardnerville, according to Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division.
Joyce Chambers, a resident of Gardnerville, died of her injuries on-scene, according to a Nevada State Police news release. A preliminary investigation revealed that on March 6, 2023, at approximately 12:48 p.m., troopers responded to a reported crash at the location of US 395 and Grant Avenue.
Troopers arrived where it was determined that a white 2021 Toyota Prius, driven by an adult male with an adult female passenger, Joyce Chambers, was traveling southbound on US-395, north of Service Drive. For reasons unknown, the Prius crossed the center storage lane into the northbound travel lanes, according to the news release.
The Prius continued onto the sidewalk and the Prius’ front struck a traffic sign. The Prius then struck a tree and rotated counterclockwise before the right side struck a power pole, according to state police.
The passenger, Joyce Chambers, died at the scene. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to the news release.
Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Northern Command West M.I.R.T (Multidisciplinary Investigation & Reconstruction Team) is investigating this crash.
The incident investigated by Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol, Northern Command West is the sixth fatal crash and sixth fatality for 2023.
