Carson City Rotarians to learn details of Mark Twain Days celebration in April
Carson City Arts and Culture Supervisor Sierra Scott and Carson City’s Arts & Culture and Tourism Authority Program Manager Debra Soule will fill members in on all the event details.
Mark Twain, the pen name of Samuel Clemons, is synonymous with Carson City and the Comstock. Clemons arrived by stagecoach to the territory in 1861 along with his brother Orion who had been appointed by President Abraham Lincoln to serve as the Secretary of the Nevada Territory. Clemons introduced Mark Twain to the world in 1863 with “A Letter from Carson City.”
Festivities during the three-day celebration include a Bow-tie Ball, train rides, live music and other entertainment, plus a family picnic.

Nevada’s own McAvoy Layne, who has been portraying Twain for more than 40 years, will be at the center of many of the festivities and featured in a humorous performance of, “Becoming Mark Twain: Sam Clemens in Nevada.”
