Carson City Sheriff's Report: 70-year-old woman arrested on felony theft warrant

A Carson City woman, who was having a fight with her neighbor regarding a television, was arrested on an outstanding felony theft warrant from Douglas County.

The 70-year-old Mountain Drive resident, has been wanted since February 2009 on three felony counts of theft. The warrant was issued by Richard Glasson, Douglas Magistrate for Tahoe Township stemming from alleged crime committed from Jan. 21, 2008 for Feb. 1, 2008.

The arrest happened March 9. Her bail has been set at $1,000.

On March 9, a Carson City man with a history of mental issues was arrested after wielding a knife at a police officer and hiding in the rafters of his family garage, according to law officers.

The 26-year-old man was subdued by several deputies after officers shot him five times with a bean bag shot gun, and a Tazer. He was arrested on multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon, destruction of property and obstructing an officer.

The man's mother reported to authorities that her son had a history of mental problems that that she wanted him arrested for damaging the family's walls and doors.

March 10
A Carson City man was arrested on an outstanding gross misdemeanor warrant on destruction of property charges.

The 21-year-old man, a resident of Lee Street in Carson City, was picked up outside the Quick Stop Market on Roop Street after officers were interviewing four subjects. A subsequent background check of one of those questioned turned up the outstanding warrant from the Justice Court of Carson Township.

The complaint, issued July 2009, alleges the man committed a crime of malicious destruction of property valued up to $5,000, a gross misdemeanor. Bail was set at $5,000.

March 10
A 38-year-old Carson City deli owner was arrested on South Carson Street on a felony embezzlement warrant out of the Justice Court of Carson Township. The warrant alleges the man, committed the crimes of theft by conversion or embezzlement of $2,500 or more, a category B felony. The warrant was issued on Feb. 19, 2010. Bail was set at $100,000.
The man was aware of the warrant and was cooperative when taken into custody, according to a sheriff's deputy report.

March 10
A 47-year-old unemployed Carson City man was arrested on a charge of possessing dangerous drugs without a prescription.

According to the arresting officer, a probation search was conducted on the suspect. The man submitted to a urine drug test and it came back positive for methamphetamine, according to the sheriff's report. The man was then arrested for a probation violation.

The arresting officer had stated that he had received complaints an increased amount of traffic from the man's David Street apartment, where he shared with his 67-year-old mother.

In the search of the suspect's bedroom, officers found a prescription pill that matched identical to the suspect's mothers prescription for Oxycondone. The prescription is is for back problems, according to the arrest report.

The suspect is not prescribed any the drug, a controlled substance. The mother had her medication organized in a collection in the corner of her own bedroom and the suspect had no permission to have her medications, according to the arrest report.

The man was transported to jail and charged with possession of a dangerous drug without prescription. Bail was set at $2,500.

March 10
A 47-year-old Carson City woman was arrested on felony burglary and other charges. On Wednesday the arresting officer was dispatched to an East Robinson address for a residential burglary call.

The reporting victim and witness said the suspect was "spun on drugs." Officers made contact with the female suspect, who provided a false ID of herself, according to the arrest report.

The woman, known by officers as having a tattoo of her name on her right upper arm, then told officers, after they inquired whether she had any tattoos, that she had one of a ram.

The woman was arrested on charges of burglary, giving a false ID and a confirmed warrant through Carson City Justice Court. While in booking, she removed her leather jacket and on her upper right arm the woman's name appeared, according to the arrest report. Bail has been set at $33,000.

March 11
A 42-year-old convenience store clerk was arrested on felony burglary and possession of controlled substance charges stemming from an incident on March 10 at the Carson Nugget.

According to an arrest report, officers were informed that a theft happened to an employee of the Carson Nugget. The victim told officers that he went to get his jacket from the supply closet and it wasn't there. The victim went to Nugget security and asked if he could review security camera's near the closet.

Officers spoke with Nugget security who told them they had video footage of a white male subject entering the supply closet. The officer looked at a hard copy photograph of the DVD footage.

As the officer was walking up the stairs from the lower bathroom area, he noticed the suspect, who was wearing a sweat shirt and blue jeans. The suspect walked past the closet and then stopped and looked around to see if there was anybody watching him, according to the arrest report.

The suspect then opened the door to a closet and walked inside. Approximately 15 seconds later, the suspect walked out of the supply closet with a jacket in his hands, according to the report.

At no time prior to the suspect entering the closet did he have a jacket in his hands, according to the arrest report. The suspect then ran out of the casino using the west side doors and ran southbound on Carson Street.

Witnesses interviewed said the suspect in question was a clerk at the AMPM on 720 Carson Street. Officers made contact with a clerk there and asked if she knew the suspect. The woman said the man lived on her property in an out building in the backyard.

This morning, at around 1 am. officers responded to the address, went to the outbuilding, knocked on the door and found the suspect, who was wearing the same clothes as he was when he was captured on a video camera, according to the arrest report.

Officers arrested the man. When officers asked what happened to the jacket he had allegedly taken from the Carson Nugget, the man said that after he left the Nugget, he went into an alley off of Spear Street. He said he searched the jacket for anything of value. Finding none, he tossed the jacket on a bench and left the area, according to the arrest report.

When the suspect was placed into custody, officers found a small clear plastic bag containing, which was determined after testing, to be methamphetamine. The man was booked on charges of burglary and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held on $28,000 bail.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called to two crashes Monday afternoon in the area of Highway 50 and College Parkway and at Highway 50 and Brown Street.

The final phase of demolition began Monday at the Kinkead Building at 505 East King Street in Carson City. Since Oct. 16, crews have been gutting the inside of the structure from the bottom up.

Local law enforcement agencies are warning of a telephone fraud operation where the scammers are identifying themselves as law officers, telling citizens they face going to jail due to missed court dates and then asking for credit card numbers to pay fines.

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for felony suspicion of embezzlement from his employer, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The Carson City community held its third annual Holiday Crawl Benefit 2017 on Saturday to raise money for the Holiday with a Hero campaign that gives local homeless children a chance to shop for themselves and family for Christmas. Two 21-year-old men and a 19-year-old were arrested early Saturday, 2:10 a.m. in the area of Viking and Sherman streets and face various misdemeanor charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

We have leaves, lots of leaves. I used to pile all the leaves on my shrub and flower beds. I wanted them to decompose and feed the soil, but with the extreme winds here in Washoe Valley, they continually blew back against the door. We ended up raking and moving the same leaves over and over again. Well, that’s not happening anymore!
