Carson City School Board to discuss School Resource Officer program, counselor program, bylaw changes and more

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place Tuesday, March 14 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.
Public comment will be accepted in person, or through virtual participation via email; publiccomment@carson.k12.nv.us no later than 12:30 p.m. the day of the meeting. Email for public comment must include the submitting party’s full name.
Items on the agenda include:
— An informational update will be provided by district staff and members of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office regarding the School Resource Officer program and school safety.
— Similarly, an informational update will be provided on the school counselor program.
— Proposed amendments to the bylaws of the Carson City Schools Foundations will be discussed, along with an informational update on the Carson City Schools Foundation.
Bylaw changes include extending the total possible number of directors on the foundation board from nine to 15; allowing members to continue serving, whereas before a a-year lapse between terms was required; and more. All changes can be viewed in the packet here.
— The annual report for Pioneer Academy will be presented, discussing programs, supports for students and celebrations.
— A second reading and possible action will be held regarding proposed changes to CCSD Policy 331: Job related expenses, which includes re-numbering the policy to 1060 in Section 1000.
— A presentation will be given regarding budget assumptions for upcoming fiscal year 2023-2024.
— A discussion will be held “establishing goals” for the Board of Trustees.

— Pre-K, Kindergarten, New and Returning Student Updates and Registration is open to families. Parents can visit their child’s respective school from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and provide the following required information at the time of registration:
o Birth Certificate and Immunization record
o Must be 5 years of age on or before the 1st day of school, Monday, August 14, 2023
o Proof of residency in Carson City
— Thursday, March 16, 2023, Choir Palooza, 7:00 p.m., Carson High School gymnasium
— Thursday, March 23, 2023, Band-O-Rama, 7:00 p.m., Carson High School gymnasium
— Wednesday, March 29, 2023, Professional Learning for Staff; students dismiss at the following times:
o Pre-K – 10:55 a.m.
o Carson High School – 11:40 a.m.
o Pioneer Academy – 11:50 a.m.
o Middle Schools – 12:00 p.m.
o Elementary Schools – 12:40 p.m.
— March 30-31, 2023, minimum days for elementary parent conferences; students dismiss at 12:40 p.m.
