Carson City arrests: Driver jailed for multiple felonies after early morning vehicle pursuit
A 29-year-old woman was booked Wednesday for multiple alleged felony offenses after eluding officers in an early morning vehicle pursuit, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Kasey Dawn Harger of Silver Springs was taken into custody at 4:10 a.m. and booked for felony two counts battery by a prisoner, possession of 5 grams of methamphetamine, DUI with a prior conviction, eluding police with endangerment and misdemeanor reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched at 3:30 a.m. to Northern Nevada Correctional Center on Snyder Avenue, the west side of the prison, regarding a woman in the parking lot who was possibly a drunk driver.
The vehicle she was driving was previously broadcasted to patrol units as a possible drunk driver, where she was observed traveling at a high rate of speed, driving erratically and cutting people off, the report states. The original reporting party was an off-duty corrections officer for Nevada Department of Corrections.
Dispatch advised the prison had a armed perimeter officer out with the woman and vehicle on the west side. A Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy arrived, pulling around to the rear of the vehicle to assist with blocking the vehicle so the woman could not drive away, the report states.
The suspect, instead, put her vehicle into reverse, backing toward the CCSO deputy's patrol vehicle. The deputy got on the PA system and ordered the driver, identified as Harger, to turn off the ignition. The vehicle instead sped away on Snyder Avenue. A pursuit began where the driver was traveling approximately 100 mph before entering the freeway. At College Parkway the vehicle turned westbound, and ended up crashing in front of a yard and fence of a house on Boulder Drive, the report states.
The woman exited the vehicle and ran into the backyard of the residence. The deputy called out the location and requested for other patrol units to establish a perimeter.
Deputies followed the woman's foot prints in the snow, where she exited to a bike path. A patrol unit was staged at the opening of the bike path near the intersection of Northgate Lane and Dyer Court. A deputy located the woman and detained her.
Paramedics responded to check on the woman for injuries due to the crash. Once she was cleared she was taken to Carson City Detention facility for a series of field sobriety tests.
The woman was uncooperative, refused to give her name, and answer questions. When the deputy asked the medical questions, the woman stated: "When Biden was elected to president, 14 Marines died in Afghanistan. Why don't you ask the hard questions."
The deputy advised her that question was not on the form and asked her if she wanted to continue with tests. The woman refused to participate, the report states.
The officer advised her she was under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance. The deputy did not see any signs of alcohol use, but did observe signs of behavior that led him to suspect narcotic use, the report states.
The deputy advised he was going to apply for a search warrant and began to set up a conference call for the warrant application. Dispatch advised the woman had a parole and probation flag in the system and that P&P was going to place a hold on her.
Dispatch also advised the woman didn't have a valid license and that it had been revoked. During the conference call the deputy observed the woman attempt to slip her handcuffs. At the conclusion of the conference call a warrant was approved for a blood draw.
While waiting for the phlebotomist, a search led to a bag of methamphetamine located in the woman's bra. The woman also attacked two jail deputies, the report states.
Bail: No bail hold for parole and probation violation; $20,000 for the other alleged offenses.
