Rain and snow showers develop Monday afternoon around Carson City
After a weekend with a few rain showers and a threat of snow early Monday morning, rain and snow showers finally combined Monday afternoon around Carson City but they shouldn't last for very long, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Bands of snow showers over the Sierra and far western Nevada are expected to continue for a few more hours then slowly wind down Monday evening. A weak disturbance may bring light snow and rain again Tuesday night and early Wednesday. Additional storm systems may also bring bring gusty winds at times, with periods of rain and snow later this week through early next week.
Light snow accumulations will be possible above 5,500 and could briefly cause some travel difficulties over higher Sierra passes. Another round of moderate to strong storms will could impact the region Thursday through next Monday. It is too early to say exactly when the storms will arrive or how strong they will be but there is potential to see another round of heavy rain and snow in addition to gusty winds starting around Thursday this week.
