Carson City’s Tap Shack sold to new owners, to become The Tap @ Rice St.
Carson City’s Tap Shack has been sold to new owners, long-time residents Todd and Dixie Thomsen, who are currently renovating both the inside and outside patio.
The sale comes with a name change as well, which is now The Tap @ Rice St.
According to Todd and Dixie, the new theme of the longstanding local watering hole will be based on local sports teams, from Carson High School to Little League, Pop Warner, UNR, and everything in between.
The outside patio was gutted and rebuilt, said Todd, which now has new fencing, a gazebo, and outside fire pit, and will host a new flat screen TV for outside television viewing.
In line with keeping things local, the taps will host two domestic beers but the remaining 10 will be reserved for beer from all local breweries.
Dixie, who graduated from Carson High School in 1982, said that keeping things local is very important to them.
“I was raised here, we’re both local, we’ve been here a long time,” said Dixie. “We’re excited to have our community to come together and we’ve had a ton of support already.”
This isn’t the first time Todd has owned and operated a bar. The Tap @ Rice St. will be his fourth bar; he ran the Pit Stop, what is now Sassafras, for two years, as well as two bars in Butte, Montana.
Since then, they have owed United Lawn and Landscaping for 32 years.
Todd and Dixie decided to purchase the Tap Shack after discussing owning another bar for years.
“We’ve always talked about it, but something that is really important to us right now is, with this last year and how everyone has just been so cooped up, now we’re finally starting to come out and be together in small groups. It’s time for us to get back to our community and really connect with each other, and we just had a really great opportunity for it.”
While there is no grand opening planned currently, The Tap @ Rice St. will be open for business beginning Wednesday, March 3. They hope to have live music every Saturday beginning with Ev Musselman from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sat., March 20, and they’re also hoping to host Food Truck Fridays on Friday evenings.
The Tap @ Rice St. will be open Monday through Friday from noon until 10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
