Carson City Rotarians Tour Friends in Service Helping (FISH) Facilities
Rotary Club of Carson City members took a lunch time field trip this week to the Friends in Service Helping (FISH) facility. FISH has been feeding, clothing and helping people in need since 1979.
“So many people think of FISH as just a thrift store,” said club president Rich Perry. “We learned that FISH is so much more, providing medical care at Ross Clinic, a food pantry to support food insecure families and individuals, a cafeteria that serves the elderly, homeless and others in need with hot meals, and counseling services to help those with a "hand up" to help them find resources, housing and better employment through training and education.”
The club holds several “lunch time field trips” a year to nonprofits and businesses in the Carson City area. Jim Peckham, the Executive Director of FISH, is a member of Carson Rotary and offered a tour of FISH to educate members on what they do for our community. The group was able to get an up close “behind the scenes” tour of the entire operation. They were also treated to lunch prepared by the FISH kitchen.
Perry added “Both FISH and Carson Rotary are local non-profits that endeavor to make Carson City a safe, healthy and good place to live and work. I think there is a lot of synergy between us.”
