Light snow in Carson City possible Friday into Saturday, second system by Tuesday
A winter system is expected to drop into the Sierra and western Nevada late Friday into Saturday, possibly bringing snow showers to the Carson City region, according to the National Weather Service.
This is a colder system and snow levels will quickly lower to 4000-5000 feet by Friday night into Saturday morning. Accumulating snow is probable in the Sierra with 3 to 7 inches at lake level and 6 to 12 inches above 7,000 feet and likely more in the higher elevations. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Lake Tahoe and much of the Sierra.
Snow levels are expected to fall into all valley floors in western Nevada by Friday evening and Saturday morning but the accumulation amounts are uncertain, possibly up to 1 to 3 inches in Carson City, according to the weather service. The snowfall for both the Sierra and the valleys is expected through Saturday.
The snow will create slick and icy roads with the worst conditions likely Friday evening into Saturday morning. This includes Interstate 80 and Highway 50, according to the weather service.
The systems should move out of the area by Sunday, with lows in the 40s for the Carson City region. And then Monday night into Tuesday and Wednesday, another weather system is expected for the region. It is also a cold system, with the possibility of more snow to the region as well colder, more seasonable temperatures than what we have been experiencing. The weather service notes that it is still too early to forecast any snow amounts for either the Sierra or the valleys.
