Carson City area weather: Cold and sunny through weekend, showers possible next week
A cold front pushing through the region will continue Friday into Saturday morning, bringing widespread morning lows in the teens with sub-zero temperatures likely in the mountain valleys, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Windy conditions are likely Friday, with a gradual warmup beginning Saturday into early next week, NWS forecasters say. There is daily potential for light wintry precipitation in the mountains Sunday into Tuesday, with increased chances for rain or snow and strong winds next Wednesday as a Pacific storm nears the region.
Temperatures will remain mostly sunny and cold around the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas for the coming days. Highs Friday will be in the low to mid-30s, then around 40 on Saturday, the mid-40s by Sunday and low 50s on Monday. Overnight and early morning lows will be 15 degrees Friday, the mid 20s Saturday night and upper 20s overnight Sunday.
For the Lake Tahoe Basin, high temperatures Friday will be in the low 30s, low 40s on Saturday and Sunday with highs in the upper 40s by Monday.

Starting Sunday, the main question will be how far south the Pacific storm track moves. The majority of ensemble guidance keeps the high pressure ridge strong enough to deflect meaningful storms up into the Pac NW early to mid next week. Even in this scenario some light rain or snow showers are possible (20 percent chance each day) in the mountains and NE California Sunday into Tuesday. Worth watching for intermittent travel impacts.
There remains potential for a wetter/windier storm next Wednesday and Thursday as a number of ... Canadian ensemble members allow the Pacific storm track to shift just far enough south into our region. This is a more favorable pattern for wetter storms versus what we`ve seen the past 2 weeks with inland slider type events. NBM guidance pointing toward a warmer type event where snow risks for valleys are low and even potential for some rain and snow in mountains. If this all comes together, we could see some minor rises on rivers/creeks.
Certainly a nice storm or two in March would be welcome by many for snow and water supply. Let's see if we can kick off the month with one.
