Carson City to host first ever Board Games Convention in March at Fuji Park
A new Board Games Convention, Meeple Peak, is coming to Carson City in March, complete with live music, food trucks and all the games a person could imagine.
According to organizer Ron Dobyns, Meeple Peak is a convention for anyone who likes to play board games to come together and share their love of the hobby.
Meeple Peak BGC will be held in Carson City at the Fuji Exhibition Hall, conveniently located near Highway 395/I-580 and Highway 50, with free parking and a beautiful park for when you need to step out and get some fresh air.
At this time, the event is being limited to the first 200 ticket holders, according to event organizers.
"I have always loved playing games but the idea of a convention comes from being part of a board game group in Minden for seven years and all the awesome people I have come to know because of it," said Dobyns. "I have organized events for the group but I have always wanted to do something bigger so, with the help of the group, I decided it was time."
The games aren’t the ones that most people know like Monopoly and Risk, said Dobyns. Some of the more popular games people may know are Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Azul, or Carcassonne.
"You can also bring your own games to play with family and friends, or new friends you meet at the convention," said Dobyns.
In addition to board games, there will be a "Play to Win" board game library where attendees can check out games donated by board game publishers as well as a local game store, The Glass Die, and will be entered for a chance to take the game that you played home with you.
In addition, Reno Video Game Symphony JAZZ COMBO will be playing live music Saturday afternoon.
Local game store, The Nest, will run several special events, and the local food truck, KING of Kings, will be there Saturday and Sunday serving up food to hungry gamers.
"I chose Carson City because it is a great central location for everyone," said Dobyns. "I chose Fuji Park because of all the great businesses in the area."
Meeple Peak Board Game Convention runs March 18 through March 20.
Due to the ongoing threat of COVID there will be a strict mask policy. All convention attendees are required to wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose. Special designated eating spaces will be set up. Eating at a game table will not be allowed.
"You can step out and away from a game table to hydrate and snack," said event organizers. "Meals should be taken in designated areas."
Being fully vaccinated, while highly recommended, will not be an exception to the mask policy, according to the events page.
"Please understand that this is not an item up for debate or negotiation," said event organizers. "Meeple Peak must be a safe place for all attendees. I hope you all understand."
