Carson City Sheriff's Office addresses unregistered, uninsured vehicles and unlicensed drivers

One of the most common denominators we find during a crash investigation is that it involves an unregistered or uninsured vehicle or an unlicensed driver, sometimes we find all three of these factors involved.

Nationwide statistics indicate that nearly 1 in 5 fatal accidents involve an unlicensed driver. Unlicensed drivers include people that have had their driver’s license revoked or suspended, or it has expired, maybe they never had one in the first place. Nevada Revised Statutes specifically define unlicensed driver in NRS 483.230.

Nevada Revised Statutes also define unregistered vehicle (NRS 482.205) and uninsured vehicle (NRS 485.185). If you are lacking any of these requirements you could face a fine, maybe even jail time and your vehicle could likely be towed.

Worse off is the effect to the legally registered, licensed, and insured vehicle operators out there when they are victims of these other drivers, it ends up costing everyone.

Take responsibility by registering your vehicle, insuring your vehicle and maintaining a valid driver’s license.
