Carson City arrests: Fight leads to arrest for suspected felony assault
A 25-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor battery, a Carson City sheriff's report states.
Jesus Efren Martinez-Olmos was taken into custody at 5:32 p.m. in the 1800 block of East William Street. A second person involved was also arrested for misdemeanor suspicion of battery.
According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the 2100 block of East William Street for a report of a large fight involving multiple subjects.
Officers were advised when they arrived that a black Audi with California license plates left the scene. It was believed the suspects from the fight were in the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle near a William Street restaurant and conducted a traffic stop.
Officers at the scene of where the fight was were told by a man who had blood covering his face that he was jumped by several people who drove off in a black Audi. Another bystander had a picture of the vehicle's license plate on their phone. It was the same vehicle the officers had pulled over in the traffic stop, the arrest report states.
During the investigation, officers learned what happened through victims, witness interviews, casino security and video surveillance of the altercation. Three people were injured, one was taken to the hospital emergency room for treatment.
Two arrests were made. According to the booking report, the arresting officer also submitted charges against one other person. Bail for Martinez-Olmos: $21,137. Bail for the second person involved, $1,137.
In other arrests:
— A 42-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 11:57 p.m. in the 300 block of North Carson Street for suspicion of gross misdemeanor obstructing a police officer.
According to the booking report, officers responded to a bar in the 300 block fo Cason Street for a patron refusing to leave and being aggressive toward the bartender.
When officers arrived they observed a male arguing with staff at the front gate. Staff advised they wanted the man trespassed from the bar for the night. The male smelled strongly of alcohol, swayed when he stood and slurred his speech, the arrest report states.
An officer notified the male that he needed to leave and asked him if he had money for a cab. The male became uncooperative and profane and refused to identify himself. When the officer requested dispatch to send a taxi, the male began calling deputies obscenities and assumed an aggressive stance. The man was placed under arrest and taken to jail. Bail: $2,637.
— A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 12:52 p.m. for two misdemeanor contempt of court warrants. Bail: $1,274.
— A 21-year-old Carson City man, Pedro Estrada-Gonzalez, was arrested Friday, 4:36 a.m. for suspicion of felony possession of drugs for sales and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
According to the booking report a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle with extremely dark tinted windows. As the vehicle drove by the deputy, he shined his patrol unit spot light directly at the driver's window and could not see inside the vehicle.
After the vehicle was stopped the officer again shined his flashlight at the windows and could not see into the vehicle. The officer made contact with the driver, who provided a Nevada ID card. A records check showed he was driving on an expired instruction permit and did not have a valid license.
The driver notified the deputy that he had a firearm in the glove compartment of the vehicle. The officer asked the man and his passenger to exit the vehicle while the officer removed the gun for safety purposes. The driver gave the officer consent to search the vehicle and recover the gun. During the search officers located contraband in the vehicle, a black backpack contains numerous items, including baggies with different insignias on them, an empty firearm magazine that matched the suspect's gun, a digital scale with white powdery residue, and a folded up $1 bill with a small amount of suspected cocaine.
The man was read his Miranda rights and he said he understood his rights and admitted the backpack was his and that he was selling cocaine and carries the gun for protection. He was booked for possession of a schedule 2 substance for sales and being a prohibited person possessing a firearm. Total bail amount listed for both suspected felony offenses $35,000.
— A 38-year-old Carson City man, Corey Wayne Booth, was arrested early Monday for suspicion of two counts felony parole violation. He's being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.
— A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 1:15 pm. in the 3900 block of Gordon Street for two count misdemeanor probation violation. Bail $6,000.
