Lyon County Sheriff's Office: Yerington woman jailed after vehicle chase spanning several miles
A 29-year-old Yerington woman driving a stolen vehicle was arrested Tuesday following a vehicle pursuit with law enforcement that spanned several miles through paved and dirt roads, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.
Savanah Hellena Paij Estrella was booked into the Lyon County Detention Facility for suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and felony eluding.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday to a residence in the 500 block of Fairview Street in Yerington for a reported unwanted subject at a residence causing a disturbance, according to a LCSO news release.
As deputies were sent to the area, the reporting party called dispatch back stating the suspect stole their vehicle and left the area. Yerington Police Department officers also responded to assist in the investigation.
The reporting party advised the suspect, Estrella, had taken the their vehicle without permission. The vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen and a description of the vehicle was broadcasted to area law enforcement to attempt to locate the stolen vehicle.
A Yerington Police Department officer observed the vehicle on the Yerington Paiute Indian Reservation. A Tribal Police Officer arrived and located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect failed to stop and fled in the stolen vehicle subsequently exiting the reservation, according to LCSO.
The suspect then led Tribal Police, Yerington Police Department and Lyon County Sheriff's patrol units on a several mile chase traveling both on dirt roads and paved county roads. The suspect ultimately traveled off a dirt road and became stuck in a ditch above the Weed Heights Area of Yerington. Deputies arrested the suspect without further incident.
Estrella was booked into the Lyon County Detention Facility for the charges listed above. Her bail is set at $ 32,500.
