Rotarians to learn about Carson City's current, future capital improvement projects

Carson City’s capital improvement projects are the topic of conversation at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. Public Work’s City Engineer Randall Rice and Deputy Director Dan Stucky will give members an overview of the City’s Capital Improvement Plan and a brief update of current and future projects.
The public is invited to attend. The meeting takes place Tuesday, Feb. 8, at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.
The pair will discuss Carson City’s CIP and how it’s used to manage large projects, property acquisition and city maintenance. In addition to the CIP process, updates to other important City projects will be discussed such as the water treatment plant improvements, the East William Street project, as well as improvements to Colorado and Roop Streets, expanding sewer service and the Engine House Arch Historic Project. “The CIP acts as a road map of proposed projects and is a working document that is routinely reviewed and updated,” Rice said.
He adds that most people would be intrigued with what he and his colleagues do. “Our department is unique in that we have a civil design team that handles most of our project design work. Most other agencies in our area hire out to consultants which is more costly.” He also says that the department handles plenty of emergencies as they arise. “Public Works employees are first responders. While we may not run into burning buildings or arrest criminals, we are there for many other emergencies such as flooding, earthquakes, wind or environmental hazards which threaten life or property.”
