Senators basketball recap: Carson sputters offensively, fall to Galena 57-35
The Senators’ chances in postseason basketball took a major blow Friday, as a 57-35 loss to Galena in Carson City put their record at 3-9 in league play.
With Back-to-back losses to Douglas and Galena, head coach Jordan Glover described the recent stretch for the team.
“It was really tough to see a few games not go our way,” he said. “But we need to stay positive and keep working like we have been this whole year.”
The Grizzlies built a comfortable 14-7 lead in the first quarter with the help from center Moses Wood and guard Skylar Louie. Who combined for 6 points and 2 steals off of sloppy turnovers from Carson.
Although Carson struggled to find any rhythm offensively, junior guard Hunter Rauh splashed a corner trey to cut the deficit to 3 points. On the ensuing possession, Louie drilled a 3-pointer of his own. Making the score 26-20 at the halftime buzzer.
The Senators dug themselves quite a hole to start the second half, managing a dismal 2 points in the third quarter. Countless turnovers and missed shots lead to a 16-2 run for Galena, who took full advantage of the mental mistakes from Carson. Heading into the fourth, the Grizzlies held a commanding 42-22 lead.
With substitutions put into place, Carson reserves helped spark some form of life offensively. But it was too little too late, as the double-digit advantage was firmly in Galena’s grasp.
For Galena, Moses Wood stuffed the stat-sheet with 13 points (5-9), 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals, and 1 emphatic block. Louie added 10 points (4-8), 2 rebounds, and 2 steals in the win. Ivan Wood also chipped in with 7 points.
For Carson, Derek Barry tallied 9 points (3-6), 2 rebounds, and 1 assist. Trent Robison finished with 7 points (2-9), 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
Carson will look to bounce-back with the regular season nearing its end.
